AJ Garuna is the founder of Garuna Group and leads its investigations, intelligence and security practice. His work spans fraud investigations, regulatory compliance, corporate intelligence and covert operations, and he serves on the boards of several industry organizations, where he contributes to professional standards and regulatory advocacy.
AJ has led complex mandates for public and private sector clients. He has worked within international corporate intelligence teams and special investigation units, and has directed engagements across North America, Latin America, Europe, India and Hong Kong. His engagements draw on open-source, social media and human intelligence.
His operational background includes work as a specialized undercover operative in the transportation and logistics sector. He holds AZ (tractor-trailer) and C (commercial bus) class licences for work in regulated industries. He is an appointed Compliance Monitor with Ontario’s Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, helping institutions meet the Ontario Career Colleges Act, 2005 and its regulations.
AJ conducts trauma-informed, culturally aware community-based investigations, including work with Tamil-Canadian networks.
He holds a Master of Science in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester, an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Socio-legal Studies from the University of Toronto and an Honours Diploma in Investigations, Public and Private, from Sheridan College, and is completing a Master of Laws in Business Law at Osgoode Hall Law School. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and holds the Level 1 Certificate in Interview and Interrogation Techniques (Wicklander-Zulawski & Associates), the National Investigator and Inspector Training Certificate (CLEAR) and the Workplace Investigations Certificate (HRPA).
