Asset Research for Litigation and Recovery

Asset Tracing in Canada

Garuna Group researches property, companies, security registrations, litigation and other lawful sources to identify asset leads and connected entities. We show what the records support and where legal process may be needed.

Asset tracing is the investigation of what a person or company appears to own, control or have transferred. Recovery is a separate legal and practical process.

We support counsel, judgment creditors, fraud victims, insolvency professionals and businesses. The work begins with known identifiers and expands through corroborated links. A name match or shared address is treated as a lead until other evidence supports the connection.

What an asset search may cover

Real property

Land-registry and related public records that may connect the subject to current or historical property interests.

Companies and business interests

Directorships, corporate filings, trade names, related entities and changes that may help explain control or movement of value.

Security registrations

Personal-property security and other public registrations that may identify creditors, collateral or competing claims.

Court and regulatory records

Proceedings, judgments, insolvency records and public regulatory material relevant to ownership, liabilities or enforcement.

Open-source connections

Public web, media and professional records used to test relationships among people, companies, addresses and assets.

Cryptocurrency transactions

Public-ledger analysis that can follow recorded transfers and identify possible service touchpoints. It cannot by itself prove who controls a wallet.

What investigators can and cannot access

Private investigators do not have special access to bank accounts, tax files, private credit information, phone records or exchange customer records. Those records generally require consent, legal process or action by an authorized agency. We distinguish public findings from inferences and identify the points where counsel may need disclosure or preservation orders.

International work is coordinated with locally authorized professionals and depends on the records available in each jurisdiction. A registry result can identify an asset lead; it does not establish recoverability, priority or beneficial ownership on its own.

How an engagement works

1. Define the question

We discuss the facts you already have, the decision you need to make and any legal or time constraints.

2. Agree on scope

You receive a written plan that sets out the work, deliverables, timing and fees before the investigation begins.

3. Investigate

We use the lawful records, research, interviews or fieldwork relevant to the assignment and provide updates at agreed points.

4. Report

The final report separates confirmed facts from unverified leads and explains important gaps or limitations.

Tracing supports recovery; it does not guarantee it

We provide the factual research. Counsel and the court determine remedies such as disclosure, freezing, enforcement or insolvency steps. Timing matters because assets and records can change, but no honest investigator can promise that an asset will be found, restrained or recovered.

Frequently asked questions

What is asset tracing?
Asset tracing is a structured search for property, business interests and other value connected to a person or company. It combines public records, open-source research and corroboration of relationships.
Can you find hidden bank accounts?
Private investigators cannot access private bank-account information without proper authority. We may identify lawful leads that help counsel decide whether formal disclosure or court process is warranted.
Can you trace assets outside Canada?
Sometimes. Availability depends on the country, the type of record and local licensing rules. We confirm scope and use appropriately authorized partners before foreign work begins.
Can you trace stolen cryptocurrency?
A trace can follow public blockchain transactions and may identify an address associated with a service. It does not identify a wallet owner or guarantee recovery. Never provide a seed phrase, private key or password.
How long does an asset search take?
A focused Canadian records search may take days, while multi-entity or cross-border work can take longer. We provide an initial scope and report material findings as the work progresses.
